Fire-lace In Your Face

Fire-lace In Your Face contains two related figures. The figure on the right is sourced from an Orientalist French photograph of an idealized odalisque, but here she hangs in space like a fiery invaded ghost.

The figure on the left morphs into a burning tree. Under her feet is the word “shame” in Arabic, repeated like roots or vines. Her shame, resulting from violations due to gender/ state violence/ colonial exploitations/ war, transforms through her.
