The first two photos are from a collaborative performance, Inscribed, done with Rashin Fahandej. We created three video projections and performed in the midst of them. The projections showed a body being marked and unmarked, and we continuously wrote on a 20 ft scroll of paper for 3 hours. When the paper was filled, it became like a new skin, a new testament. The performance was a meditation on the cycle of being marked and freeing oneself.
The last three photos are from Tunfud (Arabic for “She Shakes Off”) a video installation created with Rashin Fahandej. We placed a female figure at the center of a stream of images referencing life, loss, and power to highlight the place of women’s rights on a world stage dominated by the forces of western imperialism and worldwide fundamentalisms.
